Teen Programs

All programs at the Kent County Community Center require a
Facility Access Card for patrons twelve years of age and older.

LEADERS CLUB

Ages: Entering grades 7-9
Dates: June 28 - August 19
Days: Monday-Thursday
Times: 8:30 am-5 pm
Place:  Kent County High School (end of the day pick up at the Community Center)
Cost:  $250 8-week program
*A $70.00 non-refundable deposit (may be paid in (2) installments with deposit balance due by May 1) is required at the time of registration (even if awarded a scholarship - up to $180 remaining fee applied to award). Remaining balance due TBD.
Registration begins April 1.

Leaders Club utilizes an evidence-based curriculum for a variety of educational and service learning activities. Weekly themes will include: Self Identity/Mental Health, Dealing with Authority Figures, Healthy/Fit Lifestyles, Anti Bullying, Leadership Skills, Team Building, Technology & the World Around Us and STEM Back to school. Special weekly activities and weekly field trips will be incorporated so Kent County's leaders of tomorrow can develop the self-esteem, good decision making and problem solving skills that every great leader possesses. Participants must bring a non-refrigerated lunch and two snacks, and a refillable drink each day. The program is limited to 12 participants. Due to the limited number of children served, acceptance into the program will be competitive and requires being accepted into the program. A 500-word essay, written by the child explaining why the child would like to participate in the program and their commitment to the attendance requirements (cannot be absent more than (4) days of the (8) week program (32 days) is required to be submitted for consideration of acceptance into the program. Once your child's application has been received, pending acceptance into the strict attendance requirements for weekly trips and the end of summer trip. *If registering online, online payments (*credit card and electronic check) are subject to a nominal processing fee. If applying for a scholarship (if your child/household has not already been awarded a scholarship for the current award year: September 1 - August 31), all required support documents must be submitted to the Parks and Recreation office immediately after the online registration (no more than 3 days). Scholarships are awarded for fees that have not already been paid and are not retroactive to apply prior to the award's approval. *Payments returned by your financial institution requires a $25 insufficient fee in addition to the unpaid amount being due immediately (payable by cash or money order only to County Commissioners of Kent County). Steppin/TEMPO! DANCE

Cost: $60 per person (Resident)
$70 per person (Non-Resident)

*A minimum of six registered participants per class is required at least one week before the first date.

Participants will enjoy learning introductory hip hop and contemporary dance moves through progressive skill development each week. Gain self confidence and enhance team building skills, all while having a lot of fun (a great cardio workout)! The program will end with a showcase performance where students express all of their new found talents.

MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL AGE AFTER SCHOOL DROP-IN
RECREATION CENTER

Ages: Middle School and High School Age
Dates: First day of school-last full day of school
Days: Monday-Friday
Times: 2:30 pm-5 pm
Place: Community Center
Cost: Free with Facility Access Card

School's over, but you aren't ready to go home yet? Come to the Community Center for some open gym time and bring your friends! This is a great opportunity to come relax after the school day, get your homework done, and hang out with friends in a safe environment. Students and parents will be required to sign a Code of Conduct agreement each year.

MID-ATLANTIC RECREATION & PARKS SPORTS ALLIANCE (MARPSA)

Kent County Parks & Recreation is a member of the Mid-Atlantic Recreation & Parks Sports Alliance (MARPSA). Each year MARPSA recognizes one administrator, one official, one coach and one athlete from each participating region, for not only good sporting behavior, but also actions made on and off the field that put athletes first, assuring a positive sporting environment.

YOUTH RECREATION COMMISSION

High school aged youth are invited to join a new initiative through KCPR! The youth led Recreation Commission will establish bylaws, elect its leadership, and begin to brainstorm what it would like to see offered for youth after school to start, but then possibly expand to other activities or events such as trips, special events, positive youth development activities, and more. Your voice is needed in this exciting opportunity for youth to have a say in what they are offered to do!

Participants are requried to have a Facility Access Card to join the Recreation Commission.
